Public Works Director - Please See Job Description


The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.  The Town of Milliken retains the right to modify or change the duties or essential and additional functions of the job at any time.

The Public Works Director provides direct and close supervision over Public Works employees, either directly or through an intermediate supervisor.

  • Serve as a representative of the Town of Milliken, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through a display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and the general public.
  • Plan, coordinate, organize and direct the activities, and operations of the Public Works Department.
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and monitor departmental performance standards.
  • Review departmental programs and provide general leadership and direction.
  • Report to and advise the Town Administrator on pertinent public works issues and status.
  • Prepare and recommend contracts.
  • Conduct staff meetings and outside agency conferences to consider and determine policy issues.
  • Direct the preparation and maintenance of necessary records and reports.
  • Evaluate programs and develop means for improving systems and methods.
  • Plan and provide for implementation and management of all departmental programs consistent with community needs, Town policy, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain close liaison with other Town departments, community representatives, contractors, developers, and appropriate personnel of other public jurisdictions.
  • Administer the department’s operating and capital improvement budgets.
  • Direct the preparation of technical reports and documents related to fiscal activities and plans.
  • Prepare and make presentations to the Town Board.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate staff.
  • Conduct special studies and prepare reports as-needed.
  • Act as Town Traffic Engineer.
  • Represent the Town on inter-agency committees and in other cooperative programs.
  • Schedule and supervise vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepare project cost estimates.
  • Requisition and purchase supplies and materials.  Prepare purchasing and equipment specs, evaluate purchasing options and vendors and make recommendations.
  • Investigate and respond to citizen inquiries or complaints regarding activities and services.
  • Oversee that safety information and training is provided to subordinate personnel.
  • Supervise and assist in snow and ice removal operations as necessary.

Accounting/Finance Director - Please See Job Description

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Oversees financial operations in compliance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles.
  • Performs professional accounting services for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Effectively analyzes verification of records, money management, and technical accounting function.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding Town financial investments.
  • Responsible for revenue and expense reports, accruals, journal entries, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation, comprehensive annual financial reports, intergovernmental financial reports, cash receipts, purchase orders, payroll, fixed assets, purchasing, utility billing, grant reporting support, debt management, internal and external audits.
  • Manages the budget including revenue and expense projections.
  • Assigns and supervises the duties of personnel in the accounting department.

You must be able to lift, throw, pull, push, move dirt, move landscape materials by hand or with equipment. Manual labor will be performed in the heat, and rain.

Water/Waste Water Operator I Position  Please See Job Description


 Operating, monitoring and maintaining the Milliken Water/Wastewater Treatment Facilities, Collections and Distributions systems.  Includes work involving operation and maintenance of water treatment plant (Reverse Osmosis), wastewater treatment plant, collections systems, distributions systems, pump stations and wells servicing the Town of Milliken.  This is a non-exempt position.
