Information Regarding Taste and Odor Concerns

Dear Milliken Residents,

The Town of Milliken is currently experiencing taste and odor issues with the portion of water we receive from the City of Greeley. This is a seasonal problem that occurs when the temperature of the water they receive from Boyd Lake rises during the summer months. The warmer water causes algae blooms that can give the water an unpleasant taste and smell. Rest assured that the water is safe for normal use despite this different taste and smell.

I have been in constant contact with Greeley’s water supervisor. He assures me they are working aggressively to solve this problem. Greeley’s Boyd Lake Water Treatment Plant uses powdered activated carbon to treat the algae blooms. They are currently experimenting with different types of carbon to find the one that provides the best results on the specific type of algae causing this problem.
We apologize for any inconvenience the taste and odor issue has caused. Please feel free to contact me with further questions and concerns.
